Cottage Food Disclaimer

1. We are not the seller

CrumblyOS provides the storefront software a home baker uses to take orders. Every order is a direct sale between the customer and that independent bakery. We do not prepare, store, handle, inspect, transport, or sell any food, and we do not employ or supervise the people who do.

Payment for an order goes directly to the baker’s own payment account. We never hold those funds.

2. Cottage food laws vary

“Cottage food” laws let people make certain foods in a home kitchen and sell them directly to consumers. These rules differ significantly by state, and in some places by county or city. They commonly govern:

• which foods may be sold from a home kitchen (and which may not);
• whether registration, permits, or a food handler’s certificate are required;
• annual sales limits;
• where you may sell — direct-to-consumer, online, shipped, or at markets;
• required ingredient, allergen, and “made in a home kitchen” labelling.

CrumblyOS does not verify, monitor, or certify any seller’s compliance with these laws. Listing products on CrumblyOS is not an endorsement, licence, or proof of compliance.

3. If you sell using CrumblyOS

You are solely responsible for:

• knowing and following the cottage food, food safety, labelling, and tax rules that apply where you operate;
• obtaining any permit, registration, or inspection your jurisdiction requires;
• accurately disclosing ingredients and allergens, and including any statement your state requires;
• safe preparation, storage, and handover of everything you sell;
• staying within any applicable sales limits;
• handling your own customer complaints, refunds, and disputes.

The features CrumblyOS offers — including any compliance badge — are conveniences that display what you tell us. They are not verification, and they do not transfer responsibility to us.

4. If you are buying

You are buying from an independent home baker, not from CrumblyOS. Food sold under cottage food laws is typically made in a private home kitchen that is not subject to the same routine inspection as a commercial facility.

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, contact the baker directly before ordering. Home kitchens commonly handle major allergens — including wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts, and soy — and cross-contact cannot be ruled out. Questions about ingredients, preparation, or storage should go to the baker.

5. No warranty and no advice

Nothing on this page is legal advice. Food regulation changes, and only your local regulator can tell you what applies to you — check with your state or county health department before you start selling.

To the fullest extent the law allows, CrumblyOS disclaims liability for food prepared or sold by sellers using the platform, including illness, allergic reaction, mislabelling, or regulatory non-compliance.

6. Reporting a problem

For an issue with an order, contact the bakery first — they can resolve it fastest. To report a serious safety concern or a seller you believe is operating unlawfully, email support@crumblyos.com. We can remove a storefront from CrumblyOS, though we have no authority to act as a regulator.
